Stopped by to pick up lunch and decided on the Kalbi plate. When you first open the squeaky, styrofoam box it's a feast for the eyes! The portion size was 3 pieces of kalbi, rice and 4 sides. This is where the excitement ends. Kalbi: Tender but not marinated long enough, needed flavor (LOTS of it) Potato: Only thing right with this one was the firmness and texture. Very salty and no sweetness at all Chop Chae: Noddles were mushy but seasoned OK Seaweed: This was actually not bad, not good, but not bad. Just enough vinegar to give it the tang Cabbage: How can you go wrong with this one? Not enough salt, so it tasted like boiled cabbage Is there new owners, cooks or did someone just have an off day? For $10-something a plate I may go Chinese next time!

I've eaten here a couple times for lunch since I work nearby. They have local Korean food for an average price. Regular plates are $9-10 while mini plates run about $7-8. You can choose four sides for a regular plate and two sides for a mini. The choices are the average stuff like seaweed, kim chee, been sprouts, tofu, etc. Both times I ate here I got the mochiko chicken. My coworker always eats it from here and said it was good so I wanted to sample. It has a sweet taste due to a sticky honey glaze sauce that also soaks into the rice. The chicken itself is pretty good. The small, bite size pieces are nice and crispy. The only problem I had was that the portion of meat was small compared to the amount of rice. I had about half my rice left when I finished eating. Also, I noticed that the mini plate my coworker got had about the same amount of chicken as mine. The mini seems like the way to go if you aren't that hungry. Since it is located in the Pearl Highlands food court, there is plenty of parking.

I would not come here again. they are pretty skimpy on the meat portions and extra generous on the rice portions. the meat jun is thin and over-cooked. the sauce that comes with the meat jun sauce is not meat jun sauce at all. it's more like the filipino shoyu-vinegar sauce. BBQ chicken was cut thin and over-cooked as well. Not good quality korean food. prices are similar to other korean take-out joints, about 9-10 dollars for regular plate and 7-8 for small plate. Honestly I rather go somewhere else for take-out korean food.

Terrible. Don't buy the spicy chicken wing plate. For $9.19, all I got was three little drumettes and two of the other part of the wing; 5 wing pieces with hardly any meat on it. The taste was bad and overcooked. Similar to other posts, they give too much rice and very little of the main dish.

The service here is horrid! And so is the food! I just got through eating here with my daughter sea two so we shared a plate. I went to pick up my order and as the counter worker is openly eating her own plate on the job, she hands me my order. I ask her if I could please have an extra plate and she casually says "oh...no". ??? Who does that!? As I proceed to eat my food, BBQ ck Kim Chee radish as potato salad, the chicken is horribly dry and nothing has taste. By far the worst Korean plate in Hawaii to date.

I simply asked if the "ramen" was spicy and an older lady came out from the back yelling that it was and that if I didn't like it don't order it. Then the cashier (another old Korean lady) helps her friend behind me without asking me if I wanted to order (which I did) I ordered a bbq chix plate and go to pay and she wouldn't take one of my $1 bills because it was old and frail looking!!!! That was my last dollar! So I told them i wanted my money back and she stared at me for a minute then roughly handed me back My money. I told her and the other old lady that they needed to work on customer service and that it wasn't my fault that they wouldn't accept the money. Then she starts yelling as I'm walking away. Never again. These koreans are nuts.

They get a NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT dine here! They do shady business! Charged me for my meal, paid with a credit card and they claimed the transaction did not go through. They wanted me to pay again with a different credit card. Checked my credit account online and sure enough there was a charge for my meal. They provided me with NO receipt! When I told them to cancel my order and reverse the charges they said they can't do that and come back tomorrow. HELLO! why do I have to be inconvenienced by coming back another day to get MY money back! Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT purchase anything from them unless you want to get double charged and inconvenienced by having to return another day to get your money back!!!!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!

I'm loyal and I like knowing what I'm getting when I'm hungry. I got the mochiko chicken, as usual, in the mini size. Maybe this recession is hurting, but come ON! The portion size I got was absolutely ridiculous. Still yummy, but not enough of what I'm purchasing. Bummer.

Hmm. I'm really torn here. This place has good Korean food, but that's not why I come here. It is the Mochiko Chicken that always brings me back. It's a little different, really really sweet. It tastes like they use honey. The pieces are wet, drenched with a sweet "Mochi" sauce. It makes me want to bring my own bottle of honey with me to use as a dipping sauce. The last couple of times something has been different. The chicken was way saltier then it used to be. Too salty. I even tried ordering it extra sweet and it didn't really help. Why does this stuff happen? I'm guessing new chef.

Every time I go here, I get BBQ Chicken. I think they have pretty good BBQ Chicken and it's pretty decently priced. The meat portions are small though. The main thing that sets this place apart is the rice. The rice is cooked just right, with a hint of sweetness and just the right amount of firmness. The worst thing about this place is the service. They have no bell to ring if no one is there. The cashier can be seen eating while taking orders. There is always a help wanted sign, no surprise. They probably hire anyone who applies.

I walked by this place a couple times, and they never seemed very busy. The interaction with the lady working be hid the counter was strained. She could't understand me very well, or me her. After a lengthy ordering process, our selections were radioed back to the kitchen. After almost 10 minutes (I expected faster being that the restaurant is in a food court, read fast-food), our food finally came out. The food looked pleasant enough, and smelled very good. Unfortunately, that is where is ended. The meats were way over salted. I went through my 4oz cup of water within the first couple bites. The "sides" that my order came with were disappointing. The kimchee was bland at best. I got some other pickled something-or-other - I never could understand what she was telling me it was called. It was also quite tasteless. Lastly I was very excited about the seaweed. It was broad strips, quite different from Japanese seaweed salad. It was ok. Nothing grand. No flavors really popped out. I really expected more from this restaurant. The storefront was organized and seemed to be well maintained. The food just seemed like it had been sitting, waiting to be reheated, or had been on the serving bar for far too long.

What happened to this place??? The Mochiko Chicken was so ono, and the Meat Jun was BOMB!? That was probably 10 years ago.....when it WAS good...:( Now you microwave your Meat Jun, skimp on the portions and charge more!?!? Don't know how you guys are still open??? Another disappointment in the "not -so-many food options" here in my hometown of Pearl City ALOHA!!! Shaka Meter: ZERO!!! not even a thumb or pinky....maybe the other finger.....:p YELP 365 CHALLENGE 2014-(23 /365) "Nuked Noms"

I'll keep this short and to the point: As other Yelpers have pointed out, this business is very GENEROUS with the rice, but not so much with the main entree or side dishes. I came to the food court at Pearl Highlands recently purely out of convenience reasons. After looking at all the food places, I chose Highland Inn since the menu offerings seemed similar to Yummy Korean BBQ. Yet, the similarities end there sorry to say. I ordered a regular plate of the bbq chicken. I decided to order a regular versus a mini since the price difference was about $1.25. I figured I'd pay a bit more and get 2 more sides and a bigger entree portion. I was very WRONG about this and shouldn't have made this assumption. Again, as others have stated, the rice was a large serving whereas the chicken was just a mere 3 pieces. It was my mistake not taking a picture of this meager serving. Also, though 4 sides are given, the portions are not much at all. Sad to say one is better off going to an actual Yummy Korean BBQ location. The total paid was $9.31, but I felt I received a mini portion versus a "regular" plate. NOTE: I've learned my lesson and probably should have checked reviews on Yelp first. BOTTOM LINE: Suffice to say I WILL NOT be returning to this business in the future at all.

Now that Highland Inn has been taken over by the owners of Fat Boys the food has gone thru the roof!! I'm so happy that they are now close to work!!

Just like what the other reviewers wrote, this place is EXTRA generous on the rice, but absolutely SKIMPY on the main dish portion. I ordered the regular size BBQ Chicken, and for roughly $10, I was expecting lots of meat like at other places like Yummy's........wrong! When I opened up the tray, I was like, 'Really?!' lol. My $10 went mostly to rice and the 4 vegetables. Anyway, the taste of the vegetables and the chicken was on par with other Korean restaurants, but for the same price, I definitely recommend Yummy's BBQ over this place.

More like a 2.5 star rating, but I'll work with what I have. I ordered the Mochiko Chicken yelp.com/biz_photos/Y_ij… since all the other reviewers said that it was THE dish to get. The chicken itself was pretty good. A nice honey glaze that soaked into the rice that came along with it! Yum, yum. If there's one thing I love it's sweet sauces on my rice. Yeah, I know. It's a sin. But hey, if that's what you grow up with in midwest America, like I did, then you'd love it too! Okay so the main dish was good, but the sides were horrible! I ordered the small portion Mochiko Chicken and it came with two sides. I got the cucumber kim chee and potato salad (but not your regular potato salad; like giant triangle chunks of potato with mayonnaise-based sauce). yelp.com/biz_photos/Y_ij… The cucumbers in the kim chee were limp. It was such a turnoff. Cucumbers are supposed to be crunchy and delicious! Not soft and sad like these pieces were. The potato salad sauce was good, but the potato chunks were too large. You'd bite into one, get to the middle, and then be wondering where all the moisture went. Thus you'd try to dunk it in some more sauce, and that wouldn't really work so you'd have to eat the chunk and grimace at the dryness from the potato. Just sad. I will come back here to try more main dishes and their other sides to see if anything else is good, but I'm not betting on the sides being any better. One more thing...the main dish took some time to get out to me...like 5 minutes, but that's a good thing since I know someone is actually preparing it in the kitchen. Perhaps that's why the sides weren't so good. They were just sitting out in the front, ready to be scooped upon someone's plate. yelp.com/biz_photos/Y_ij… Yelp365-#013/365

Came here after Christmas shopping. And I'm very disappointed at their food. I got the meat jun & bbq chicken plate, it seemed like the only thing they cooked was the BBQ chicken. I think they pre-cooked their meat jun & microwave it when someone orders it. It was hard and cold. Oh and the spicy sauce, watered down. Definitely not eating here again.

I got the mini meat jun and took a bite of it. Ended up attempting to eat it and it tasted really distasteful, asked to get a refund and the owner's mother came out and would not give a refund. Not even a replacement.
